I’m Jarekhye Covarrubias, the perfumer and founder behind Khye Fragrances. I started this Black-owned niche fragrance house to blend two things that have always shaped me: my love for rich, gourmand scents and the music that raised me—R&B, hip-hop, and neo-soul. My style naturally leans cozy and delicious: coffee, cocoa, citrus, pastry notes, and all the small, comforting moments they remind us of. Before launching Khye, I had already created well over a hundred fragrances for houses like Haught Parfums and Ganache Parfums, which helped me refine the gourmand-forward signature people now associate with my work.

In 2023, I launched Khye Fragrances—a brand rooted in music, memory, and culture. We’re now listed on Fragrantica with a growing catalog of gender-inclusive scents, all composed by me. Signature releases like Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat), Brown Skin, No Ordinary Love, and Justify Your Love reflect the songs, emotions, and lived experiences that inspire me every day. One of our scents, Black Love, was even featured by TasteTV as a “Top Artisan Fragrance of 2025,” a moment that meant a lot to me and affirmed the energy I pour into this craft.

Before stepping fully into perfumery and candle making, I spent many years working in leadership roles supporting unhoused and vulnerable youth and adults—first at Covenant House California and later as a Director and Senior Director at Compass Family Services in San Francisco. Those experiences shaped how I see people, and they show up in the way I make fragrance. I learned that scent can comfort, ground, and remind us of who we are. Because of that, every Khye Fragrances creation is designed to feel like a small act of care—an olfactory safe space where warmth, identity, and nostalgia meet.

Today, through Khye Fragrances and all the work I do, my goal is simple: to create scents that people don’t just wear, but truly connect with. Scents that feel personal, soulful, and lived-in—like the soundtrack of your favorite memories.
